The short version. Your screenshots stay on your computer. We never receive them, and there is no setting that would send them to us. Everything below is about the small amount of data that is separate from your captures.
Your captures
Screenshots, scrolling captures, and annotations are created and stored on your own machine. Text extraction runs on your machine too, using the language packs Windows already has installed. None of this is uploaded anywhere, and Capture Scope has no cloud storage, no gallery, and no sharing service.
Your email address
If you request a beta invite on this site, we store the email address you typed and the date you sent it. We use it only to send you a beta invite and messages about the beta itself. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone else.

Your licence
Activating a beta licence sends your licence key and an identifier for the device to our server, so the same key cannot be used on unlimited machines and so a lost or misused key can be revoked. The app re-checks this periodically and keeps working offline for a grace period in between.
Usage analytics and crash reports
These are two separate settings, and both are off until you turn them on. Nothing is sent while they are off. You can turn either back off at any time in Settings.
With usage analytics on, we receive counts of which features get used, plus the app version and Windows version. It is aggregate data about what people use, not a record of what you did.
With crash reporting on, we receive the shape of a crash: where in our own code it happened, and the app and Windows versions.
Neither one collects, and neither one is able to send:
- Any part of a capture, thumbnail, or extracted text
- File names, folder paths, or window titles
- Exception messages or memory dumps
- Free-form text of any kind, including anything you type into the app
Update checks
The app asks our server whether a newer build exists. That request tells us the version you are on and the release channel you follow. Downloaded installers are checked against a published SHA-256 hash before anything runs, and an update is only installed after you confirm it.
This website
No advertising, no analytics scripts, and no third-party trackers. The server keeps ordinary request logs for a short period so we can spot abuse and keep the service up.
Uninstalling
Uninstalling asks whether you also want to release your licence and remove local app data. It is a question, never a silent action, and declining it leaves your files alone.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update the date at the top and tell beta testers by email rather than quietly editing the page.
